Before purchasing your first deer, it is important to understand the requirements in your state. Regulatory agencies, such as Indiana’s Board of Animal Health (BOAH), can help guide you through licensing, animal identification requirements, transportation regulations, and herd health programs.
We have worked closely with regulatory agencies and can help point new deer farmers in the right direction as they begin the process.
Herd Health and Veterinary Care
Maintaining a healthy herd is one of the most important aspects of deer farming. Proper nutrition, parasite management, vaccinations when appropriate, and routine health monitoring all play a role in raising strong, productive animals.
Finding a veterinarian familiar with cervids can sometimes be challenging, but developing a good herd health program from the beginning is essential.
